Introduction

Taiwan is a country that has experienced rapid social change through economic and academic advancement, yet little consideration has ever been given to physical education and the benefits a life-long involvement in sports can provide to both the individual and society.

Through years of coaching experience at Master Football Academy, a private coaching institution in Taiwan, two things became evident. Primarily, that if individuals, the community, sporting organizations, and both public and private sectors, worked together, the positive impact of sport on Taiwan's children and young people could be maximized. Secondarily, that in order to enable a formal dialogue between these entities and the Academy, an association was needed. Thus, in late 2008, Master Football Association was officially registered as a non-for-profit organization, structured to spearhead the advancement of physical education in Taiwan, through football.

MFA was the first private football organization in Taiwan, and is now the only registered national football association, other than the governing body, Chinese Taipei Football Association - CTFA.

Objectives

Through the ground work laid since 2004, MFA have identified four key objectives to assist in the long-term development of football and physical education in Taiwan;

  • (1) Education. The many benefits of sports, long-term physical fitness, social cohesion, and team building, to name a few, are messages which need to be clearly understood by all.

  • (2) Focus on children’s grassroots football; little or no attention is given to the younger generation, when it’s a proven fact that many of the benefits of sport are not realized if appropriate skills and positive attitudes are not developed at a young age.

  • (3)Unity; MFA is already forging the lead in building bridges to unite the necessary government, private and community organizations.

  • (4) Building long-term partnerships, with like-minded organizations, for the better advancement of football in Taiwan.

    Community League Project

Elementary students are the most critical students in terms of sports development in Taiwan. By the time these youngsters reach Junior High School a large percentage will drop out of regular sports participation. A recent (2008) study by the Department of Health further evidences this, as they concluded one in every four junior high & high school students is considered overweight.

A community league focusing on elementary students will provide youngsters and parent’s time to understand the importance of such a structure and the benefits of remaining involved in such a community program. It is every coach, teacher and parent’s role to encourage as many of these young players as possible to carry on playing through to adulthood.

This community project shall commence small-scale to enable us all to learn, adapt and iron out unforeseen issues. And then gradually build over the medium term to lay down solid foundations throughout Taiwan.

    Medium Term Overview:

    Year 1 U11 Taipei
    Year 2 U9, U11, U13 Taipei
    Year 3 U9, U11, U13, U15 Taipei + U9, U11 East, South & Central Taiwan!

The time is right to develop sports aimed at Taiwan’s youth, and Football is the vehicle for its delivery, due to its fast paced and fun environment, simple rules, and minimal equipment needs.

Perhaps most importantly, in a country where male and female enjoy more equality than their Western counterparts, and the populous are descended from a diverse mix of ethnic groups, football becomes the perfect vehicle because it is a sport that caters to boys and girls of all shapes and sizes, and whose best known players are similarly diverse.

    Donate

Many of the activities and events to date have been achieved through the pure passion, dedication and selfless volunteering of the founders. But to lay down solid foundations for future generations to benefit, and build upon, financial investment is needed in terms of delivering the key objectives.

MFA is attempting to implement the first ever Community League in Taipei City, and given time carbon copy structures being established in other main cities. MFA endeavor to follow and encourage as many of these young players as possible into adulthood, through football leagues.

Donations will go towards items such as venue hire and maintenance, equipment purchase, referees, technology, administration, insurance and so forth.

We are extremely confident that with your support we can together bring the world’s favourite game to Taiwan. Let’s begin with Taipei and expand through Taiwan.
